Wojtek Barzantny Wins UKIPT Online Title; Chris Moorman Finishes As Runner-Up

The final table of the PokerStars UKIPT Online event was played out yesterday at the Gala Casino in Bristol and its champion crowned. That champion was Wojtek Barzantny who defeated British online poker legend Chris “Moorman1” Moorman after a four-hour long heads-up battle.

The eight-handed final started with just seven players after Russia’s Sregey Sergeevich could not secure a visa in time to attend the finale so he was deemed to have been eliminated and everyone moved up a rung on the pay ladder. This mean each of the seven final table members would leave Bristol with at least £9,425.25 for their efforts.

Just 10-minutes into the proceedings the tournament lost its first player. Barzantny opened from the cutoff and then called when Ben Jenkins three-bet shoved for around 20 big blinds. Jenkins had made his move with a pair of black eights and found himself in a coinflip against the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} of his opponent. Jenkins’ “snowmen” stayed ahead right up until the river where they melted in front of the {A-Clubs}.

An hour later and the dangerous Dan “danloulou” Smyth was sent to the rail in sixth place. Smyth was left with just two big blinds when when Moorman’s {K-Hearts}{J-Spades} flopped a straight to beat Smyth’s dominating {k-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. These went into the middle on the very next hand where Smyth lost to the {A-Spades}{9-Spades} of Barzantny when the board ran out {6-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

Next to go was the Dutchman Joep van den Bijgaart. Moorman looked down at {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} ad opened the betting with a raise and then called when van den Bijgaart three-bet all in for approximately 250,000 chips. The Dutchman had moved all in with {K-Spades}{J-Spades}, leaving him drawing very thinly, so thin that Moorman’s ace-high was more than enough to win the pot and bust van den Bijgaart.

Around 60-minutes later the final table lost another player, that unfortunate soul being David Lenz. The blinds had increased to 12,000/24,000/3,000a and the players were rather deep, but that rapidly changed for Lenz. A preflop raising war between Lenz and Barzantny resulted in Lenz six-bet shoving with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and Barzantny making the extremely easy call with his {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}. Lenz was drawing dead by the turn, as the board four-flushed, and the tournament was down to the final three players.

Three-handed play lasted close to 90-minutes before Rafael Porzecanski lost his stack to Moorman in a blind-versus-blind situation. Moorman opened to 65,000 from the small blind and then quickly called when his opponent three-bet al-in for 600,000 chips. Moorman revealed {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and all Porzecanski could muster was the {A-Clubs}{4-Spades}. By the river the board read {5-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and heads-up was set.

As the opening paragraph of this article stated heads-up lasted a staggering four hours, during which time the chip lead exchanged hands on several occasions. The final hand took place at just before 22:00 and it came down to a coinflip – as many poker tournaments do. Moorman started the preflop betting round with a min-raise to 160,000, Barzantny moved all in and after a brief pause for deliberation Moorman called. The Brit showed Ac-3h and was up against Barzantny’s {Q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Moorman’s hand was best on the {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop but it fell behind on the {j-Hearts} turn. The {10-Diamonds} kept Moorman’s hand as second best, eliminating him from the tournament and leaving a delighted Barzantny to pick up the winner’s prize, the UKIPT trophy and the title of UKIPT Online champion.
